U.S. equities are adrift in afternoon trade
U.S. equities are adrift in afternoon trade while awaiting an update on September payrolls tomorrow and any immediate economic impact from the potential $15 B collision between Florida and Hurricane Mathew tomorrow. Europe closed mildly lower, though considerable uncertainty remains over Deutsche's future amid talk of German CEO capital collection for the bank and an earlier report that the German government is not in talks with the DoJ on the issue. But Deutsche closed up 0.4% near 12.12 euros. Major U.S. indices are pretty flat, with the NASDAQ in the red. Top gainers are Home Depot +1.4% (ahead of the storm) and Apple +1.1%, while biggest declines were on AMEX -3.7% and Wal-Mart -2.6% (lost sales after hoarding). Treasury yields dipped after ECB's Constancio denied QE taper talk, but have since rebounded again after all the recent long-squaring this week into payrolls.
