U.S. retail sales bounced 0.6% in Sep, and were up 0.5% excluding autos. The 0.3% headline August decline was revised to -0.2%. The prior -0.1% core figure was nudged to -0.2%. Retail sales excluding autos, gas, and building materials (control group) rose 0.2% from unchanged. Auto sales rebounded 1.1% following the 0.3% July drop (revised from -0.9%). Gas station sales jumped 2.4%, breaking two months of declines. Building materials were 1.4% higher, with furniture sales up 1.0%. Sporting goods increased 1.4%. Miscellaneous sales surged 1.8%. But clothing was unchanged, while electronics slid 0.9%, and health, personal care fell 0.5%. Overall, it's a pretty good report, though in line with forecasts.
