JMP says ZIOPHARM trial death doesn't read through to other Intrexon programs
JMP Securities analyst Jason Butler said he views the patient death in ZIOPHARM's (ZIOP) Ad-RTS-IL-12 GBM trial as "possibly or even likely due to the study drug" and acknowledges the need for caution regarding the potential safety concerns of Ad-RTS-IL-12. However, while the trial death raises questions, Butler contends it has no read through to partner Intrexon's (XON) broader oncology programs. The analyst, who notes there are multiple other programs in or entering the clinic under the collaborations between ZIOPHARM and Intrexon, keeps an Outperform rating and $42 price target on Intrexon shares.

Baird analyst Ben Kallo noted both Tesla (TSLA) and SolarCity (SCTY) shareholders approved the companies' merger, which removes an overhang for Tesla. Kallo expects the stock to move higher after the noise around the acquisition subsides. The company's focus should now return to the ramp of the Gigafactory, Model S and X production, and the ramp of the Model 3 production and he sees the shares moving higher as the company executes. Kallo reiterated his Outperform rating and $338 price target on Tesla shares.

Election to impact solar, alternative transportation plays, says Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer analyst Colin Rusch believes Trump's surprise victory, in tandem with Republicans maintaining control of Congress, constitutes a material negative for the majority of stocks under the firm's coverage and injects "significant policy uncertainty" into the growth outlook for multiple verticals, with solar/ alternative transportation plays the most impacted. He thinks residential solar plays will see lower volumes on more challenging regulations/slower demand, and expects First Solar (FSLR) and SunPower (SPWR) to take share of a smaller utility-scale solar project pie. Yieldcos like NextEra Energy Partners (NEP), NRG Yield (NYLD), 8point3 Energy (CAFD), Pattern Energy (PEGI), and TerraForm Power (TERP) could see a smaller set of available projects, he adds. Rusch believes a Trump administration could weaken or repeal corporate fuel economy standards, and a rollback could be a net negative for Johnson Controls (JCI), Ideal Power (IPWR) and Maxwell (MXWL). Also, he would not be surprised to see a Trump administration attempt to block federal support for EV buyers but provide support for companies such as Tesla (TSLA) that are creating U.S. manufacturing jobs.

Mylan settlement does not end EpiPen issue, says Wells Fargo
In a research note titled "Forget After Hrs. Quarterbacking - It is Not Back to Normal," Wells Fargo analyst David Maris says Mylan questions still remain after the company's lowered 2016 outlook and $465M Department of Justice settlement. One of Mylan's earnings levers, EpiPen pricing, is now off the table going forward, Maris tells investors in a research note. The analyst disagrees with investors that think the settlement puts the EpiPen pricing issue largely behind the company. The deal with the DOJ addresses only the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services portion of the issue, it does nothing to answer the original issue of EpiPen pricing and consumers, Maris contends. He points out that Mylan also disclosed in Friday's regulatory filing, but not in its press release, an SEC investigation by the Division of Enforcement. Maris says he's "not too excited" and doesn't gauge how good the news is by the after-hours share rally of 10%. He believes Mylan is "not back to normal" and keeps a Market Perform rating on the stock with a $43-$45 price target range. The shares are up 12% in pre-market trading to $40.35. Raymond James this morning upgraded Mylan to Strong Buy.

Piper survey shows decline in iPhone upgrade interest
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says his firm's survey of 403 U.S. iPhone owners suggests that interest in an iPhone 7 upgrade declined after the announcement of the device. The data contradicts "generally positive" initial demand indicators including from carriers including T-Mobile (TMUS) and Sprint (S), Munster tells investors in a research note. The analyst questions iPhone 7 demand into Apple's (AAPL) March and June quarters but remains confident in his thinking for flattish growth for iPhone 7 versus iPhone 6. Credit Suisse raises Apple iPhone estimates on survey, carrier comments
Credit Suisse analyst Kulbinder Garcha said that build plans noted by the firm's tech team in Japan, the firm's proprietary iPhone survey and recent announcements from Sprint (S) and T-Mobile (TMUS) all lead him to now believe that Apple's (AAPL) iPhone 7 cycle may be stronger than anticipated. Accordingly, Garcha increased his calendar year 2016 iPhone volume estimate to 215M from 208M and took his calendar year 2017 estimate up to 221M units from 217M units. Additionally, two recent surveys conducted by the firm point to a potential beneficial mix shift, as more buyers appear to be shifting toward the Plus model compared to the mix in the iPhone 6s cycle, Garcha tells investors. The analyst reiterates an Outperform rating and $150 price target on Apple shares, which closed yesterday at $111.77.
