Microsemi price target raised to $56 from $48 at RBC Capital
After Bloomberg reported that Microsemi (MSCC) was looking to sell itself, RBC Capital analyst Mitch Steves says that Microsemi could be attractive to many potential acquirers. He names Skyworks (SWKS), Texas Instruments (TXN), Maxim (MXIM) and Broadcom (AVGO) as potential acquirers of Microsemi. However, the analyst thinks that it "may be a bit to early for a deal." Nonetheless, he raised his price target on the name to $56 from $48 and keeps a Top Pick rating on the shares.

Logical buyers of Marvell are Skyworks,Texas Instruments, says Craig-Hallum
Craig Hallum analyst Christian Schwab commented on reports that Marvell (MRVL) is close to hiring Goldman Sachs after rebuffing China bids. Excluding Qualcomm (QCOM) after its purchase of NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) and Lenovo and HiSilicon as Chinese buyers, Schwab said this leaves Skyworks (SWKS) and Texas Instruments (TXN) on his list as logical buyers of Marvell. He believes shares could fetch north of $20 in a takeout, above his $17.50 price target. The analyst has a Buy rating on Marvell shares.

Microsemi will be 'a solid target' after debt drops, says RBC Capital
After StreetInsider reported that Microsemi (MSCC) is being "shopped" as a potential semiconductor M&A target, RBC Capital analyst Mitch Steves says that the company would be "a solid target" once its leverage drops to 3.0 times or less from its current 3.7 times. The analyst names Texas Instruments (TXN), Broadcom (AVGO) and Maxim Integrated (MXIM) as potential suitors. He says that Microsemi will "become an attractive M&A target in "2-3 quarters," and he keeps a $48 price target and Top Pick rating on the shares.

MKM Partners raises NVIDIA, AMD price targets on inflecting semi opportunities
MKM Partners analyst Ian Ing raised his price target for NVIDIA (NVDA) to $106 from $87, saying that thematic attention is heating up as large suppliers are crowding into artificial intelligence as an investment theme with non-GPU solutions. While other suppliers may be able to come up with better performance-for-power in certain use cases, he believes NVIDIA GPUs still have user stickiness with developer incumbency and easy-to-use tools that will be difficult to overcome. The analyst also raised his price target for AMD (AMD) to $10.50 from $8 to reflect improved prospects for the company driven by new product pipeline. Although Ian expects AMD to be a relatively minor player, its shares are helped by continued A.I. headlines and NVIDIA, Intel (INTC), and Qualcomm (QCOM) turning increasingly vocal on the opportunity. He reiterates a Buy rating on NVIDIA and AMD shares.

Acquisition of NetSuite helps Oracle boost cloud scale, says Raymond James
Raymond James analyst Michael Turits views Oracle's (ORCL) acquisition of NetSuite (N) as positive, saying it helps the former increase its cloud scale and scope at a reasonable valuation. The analyst believes that with this deal Oracle solidifies its lead in SaaS ERP relative to SAP (SAP), Workday (WDAY), and Microsoft (MSFT). Additionally, Turits points out that while he would have been positive on a more aggressive acquisition of salesforce.com (CRM) by Oracle, he believes this deal makes that "even less likely." He reiterates a $45 price target on Oracle's shares.

On The Fly: Top five analyst downgrades
Catch up on today's top five analyst downgrades with this list compiled by The Fly: 1. Carnival (CCL) downgraded to Underweight from Equal Weight at Morgan Stanley by analyst Jamie Rollo after the firm's checks indicated cruise demand weakened and prices were soft in August. The analyst lowered Carnival's price target to $48 from $54. 2. lululemon (LULU) downgraded to Equal Weight from Overweight by Morgan Stanley analyst Kimberly Greenberger following the company's earnings report. She noted that the company's comps are decelerating and that traffic remains a headwind. Given the slowdown seen in Q2, Greenberger lowered her comp assumptions and cut her price target on lululemon shares to $70 from $74. 3. Morgan Stanley analyst Meta Marshall downgraded Ciena (CIEN) to Equal Weight from Overweight, saying that while the company can likely outgrow the market over the next couple of years, its industry remains intensely competitive and growth is slowing in the long haul market, leaving little room for multiple expansion. Marshall maintains a $23 price target on Ciena shares. 4. Smith & Wesson (SWHC) downgraded to Hold from Buy at Craig-Hallum by analyst Steven Dyer, as he thinks the current environment is "as good as it gets" for firearms demand. Based on past cycles, Dyer contends that November's election and activity right after that will likely mark the top of the current firearms cycle and the stock will react as comps become more difficult. 5. STMicroelectronics (STM) downgraded to Underperform from Neutral at BofA/Merrill, with the firm saying structural pressures will drive declining revenue from Q3 of 2017 and beyond.
