Goldman Sachs to pay $56.5M to settle rate-rigging lawsuit, Reuters reports

Goldman Sachs (GS) will settle a U.S. class action lawsuit accusing it of rigging an interest rate benchmark used in the derivatives market for $56.6M, Reuters reports. Goldman's settlement came after seven banks, including JPMorgan (JPM), Bank of America (BAC), Credit Suisse (CS) and Deutsche Bank (DB), agreed earlier this year to pay $325M to resolve the issue. Remaining defendants include HSBC (HSBC), Morgan Stanley (MS), Nomura (NMR), UBS (UBS) and Wells Fargo (WFC). Reference Link

DoJ will not destabilize Deutsche Bank, says Cowen
Cowen analyst Jaret Seiberg sees little practical or political upside for the Justice Department to press Deutsche Bank for a penalty that is so large it could destabilize the bank and create a new financial crisis. JPMorgan views Wells Fargo's Resolution Plan failure as significant
The failure of Wells Fargo's Resolution Plan is a "significant" issue with the potential for "material" consequences if Wells does not pass the next submission in March 2017, JPMorgan analyst Vivek Juneja tells investors in a research note. This adds to other issues that surfaced this week for Wells, including Prudential Financial no longer distributing insurance policies through Wells and FINRA opening up a hotline for the bank's brokers who were fired to report issues related to improper termination, the analyst contends. Juneja believes the issues add to Wells' reputational challenges and will likely pressure earnings by increasing expenses. He keeps a Neutral rating on the shares.
