The analyst views valuation as attractive and expects the stock to outperform as Paycom is likely to deliver upside to estimates through the year, which could also squeeze shorts.

Paycom should advance inline with growth, says Canaccord
Canaccord analyst David Hynes noted Paycom's Q4 upside results and positive outlook for 2017 should ease some investor concerns. He did say there were unanswered questions around planned openings that could raise suspicions but the numbers suggest the company continues to invest for growth. Hynes said although there's probably a bit of upside to his numbers, he expects the shares should advance more or less inline with growth. Hynes maintained his Buy rating and raised his price target to $60 from $55 on Paycom shares.

Stifel lists potential takeout candidates following AppDynamics deal
Cisco's (CSCO) acquisition of AppDynamics (APPD) is a sign that the wave of Software deal activity in 2016 has carried over into the new year, Stifel analyst Brad Reback tells investors in a research note. He believes the deal bodes well for the small- and mid-cap names across his firm's coverage list, including potential consolidation candidates such as Barracuda (CUDA), ChannelAdvisor (ECOM), FireEye (FEYE), HubSpot (HUBS), Paycom (PAYC), Paylocity (PCTY), Proofpoint (PFPT), SecureWorks (SCWX), Splunk (SPLK), Tableau (DATA), Ultimate Software (ULTI), Veeva (VEEV) and Zendesk (ZEN). Paylocity upgraded to Buy from Underperform at BofA/Merrill
BofA/Merrill upgraded Paylocity two notches to Buy from Underperform and raised its price target to $40 following the Q2 beat and guidance. The firm's analyst believes core growth has bottomed at 25% year-over-year and can accelerate in FY18 driven by improving sales productivity, a return to historical broker channel referral rates, and higher new module attach rates. The analyst valuation has compressed and EBITDA margins have improved, providing visibility into stronger leverage as sales and growth pick up in FY18.

ADP results perceived as a negative read-across for Ultimate, says Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse analyst Michael Nemeroff notes ADP (ADP) reported Q2 results with total revenue below consensus, lowered new business bookings forecast to be roughly flat and guided down full-year revenue growth. The analyst believes some investors could perceive "incorrectly" these results as a negative read-across for Ultimate Software (ULTI). Nemeroff sees limited risk to the latter's preliminary recurring growth guidance and believes any potential regulatory changes should have little impact on the company hitting future sales growth. Nemeroff views the recent weakness in Ultimate Software's shares as a unique buying opportunity, and reiterates an Outperform rating and $260 price target on the stock.
