Box Office Battle: Will 'Inferno' set box office ablaze?

This weekend's major release is "Inferno," from Sony's (SNE) Columbia Pictures and Imagine Entertainment. It is the third movie in the Robert Langdon series, starring Tom Hanks, which have all been adapted from the best-selling Dan Brown thriller novels. The third film in the series is expected to open in the range of $25M-$30M domestically. However, "Inferno" got off to a "slow start," according to Box Office Mojo, which noted it only took in $800K in Thursday night previews. Tyler Perry's "Boo! A Madea Halloween," which is being distributed by Lionsgate (LGF), is expected to earn $12M-$14M range in its second weekend at theaters. Viacom (VIA, VIAB) subsidiary Paramount Pictures action thriller sequel "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back," with Tom Cruise returning as the titular star, is expected to gross in the range of $11.5M-$12.5M in its second weekend at theaters. Time Warner's (TWX) Warner Bros. thriller "The Accountant," starring Ben Affleck, is expected to bring in $7.5M-$8M in its third weekend at theaters. Horror sequel "Ouija: Origin of Evil," which is being distributed by Comcast's (CMCSA, CMCSK) Universal Pictures, is expected to earn an additional $7M. Other publicly traded companies in film making include 21st Century Fox (FOX, FOXA), Disney (DIS), and Time Warner (TWX).
