Stocks drifting near all-time best levels

Stocks remain in positive territory in afternoon trading, with the Dow and S&P outpacing the Nasdaq. All three are firmly in the green and have been moving in a narrow range for several hours. The number of advancing stocks is ahead of decliners by 5:4, though up volume is more significantly ahead of down volume. Crude oil is higher by about 1.5% while gold is essentially flat for the session.
