Stocks drifting at session highs in afternoon trading

Stocks have been sharply higher throughout the day and are currently at session highs. The Dow is trying to put together a 200 point gain for the second consecutive day while the Nasdaq is holding firmly above 6,000 after passing that round-number milestone for the first time. Advancing stocks are ahead of decliners by 3:1 while up volume is ahead of down volume by just a little more than 2:1. Oil prices are trying to join the party and have turned positive after being in negative territory all day. Gold prices have slid again today, putting them at their lowest point in two weeks.
