Stocks little changed as eclipse adds distraction to slow news day

Stocks are little changed in afternoon trading, as they have been all day. The only excitement so far today is the solar eclipse, which began in Oregon shortly after the noon hour as it makes its way across the country. As expected with the narrow trading range, the number of advancing stocks is almost even with declining shares. Oil prices are lower by about 2% while gold is higher by 0.4%.
