FBR Capital analyst Daniel Ives believes the "conditions are ripe" for Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook to pursue a larger acquisition and laid out four companies he views as the iPhone maker's top potential acquisition candidates in 2016, though he cautioned that he could clearly see the company not pursuing major M&A next year. If it did, however, a deal for GoPro (GPRO) could help Apple catch-up in areas like drones and VR, where competitors are investing heavily, Ives contends in his note to investors. Penetrating the enterprise segment is a key for Apple and a deal for Adobe (ADBE) or Box (BOX) could help, Ives added. The analyst also listed Tesla (TSLA) as a "long shot" potential target for Apple.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk told staff in an internal memo to give buyers a "short test ride" to demonstrate the company's Full Self-Driving technology, now a "hard requirement" in North America, Bloomberg's Edward Ludlow reports. Workers will also have to perform checks on any vehicles returned from service. "I know this will slow down the delivery process, but it is nonetheless a hard requirement," Musk said in the memo, adding that "This is very important." Reference Link

Citi analyst Itay Michaeli lowered the firm's price target on Tesla to $196 from $224 and keeps a Neutral rating on the shares. Ahead of Tesla's Q1 delivery release, the analyst lowered estimates to reflect recent data points. The firm's Q1 delivery estimate goes to 429,9000 from 473,300. The Q1 setup for Tesla "looks tough on aggressive consensus estimates," the analyst tells investors in a research note. In recent weeks, consensus estimates have come down, but March data points have also disappointed, says Citi. It believes Sheet estimates are still looking too high, not only for 2024 but also 2025.

After this morning's collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland closed the Port of Baltimore, JPMorgan economist Michael Feroli noted that the port ranks 17th among U.S. ports in tonnage handled, but ranks first for light vehicle imports and is also an important coal export terminal. However, the firm's initial assessment is that this development will "likely only have minimal implications for vehicle inflation" given that many more vehicles are imported over land from Canada and Mexico and that vessels are already being diverted to other East Coast ports. Publicly traded automakers include Ford (F), General Motors (GM), Honda (HMC), Mercedes-Benz Group (DDAIF), Nissan (NSANY), Stellantis (STLA), Tesla (TSLA), Toyota (TM) and Volkswagen (VWAGY).
