Apple (AAPL) supplier TSMC (TSM) has unveiled its A16 chip manufacturing technology featuring nanosheet transistors with "backside power rails" meant for producing its ultra-advanced 1.6nm chips by 2026, Nikkei Asia's Cheng Ting-Fang reports. Reports Q1 revenue $534.5M, consensus $545.55M. "We had a strong start to the year and delivered another record quarter. Growth in higher margin products and a strong operating performance across the company led to record operating income for MTI. This quarter demonstrates the power of our new organization, focused strategy, and robust business model. We continue to execute on our strategy and are on track to achieve our long-term growth and profitability targets," said Douglas Dietrich, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Citi raised the firm's price target on GE Aerospace to $186 from $120.43 and keeps a Buy rating on the shares. The company's' Q1 was better than expected and it modestly increased its full-year EBIT outlook, the analyst tells investors in a research note. The firm says commercial aftermarket demand remains robust.
AKZOY

Goldman Sachs upgraded AkzoNobel to Neutral from Sell with a price target of $70, up from $66. The company's Q1 adjusted EBITDA topped estimates, but shares fell 7% intraday due to a higher-than-expected operating expense guidance given on the earnings call, the analyst tells investors in a research note. Investors have expressed disappointment in the higher-than-expected costs, stating that more could be done to offset higher wage inflation, though despite the higher opex outlook, the Q2 and FY24 EBITDA guidance ranges given by management still bracket consensus, the firm added.

Ansys (ANSS) announced a collaboration with TSMC (TSM) on multiphysics software for TSMC's Compact Universal Photonic Engines. COUPE is a cutting-edge Silicon Photonics integration system and Co-Packaged Optics platform that mitigates coupling loss while significantly accelerating chip-to-chip and machine-to-machine communication. TSMC COUPE, along with Ansys multiphysics solutions that are integrated with Synopsys' 3DIC Compiler unified exploration-to-signoff platform, enables the next generation of silicon photonics and co-packaged optics designs for applications in AI, datacenter, cloud, and HPC communications. The work spans multiple areas, including fiber-to-chip coupling, integrated electronic-photonic chip design, power integrity verification, high-frequency electromagnetic analysis, and critical thermal management.
