Stifel is lowering its estimates for AMC (AMC) and Cinemark (CNK) "to reflect lower box office performance to date and future expectations." The firm now expects the industry box office benchmark to fall 11% in Q2, versus its previous estimate of a 3% decline. The firm says that the industry is down 9% so far this quarter, and it expects "X-Men: Apocalypse", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" and "Independence Day 2" to generate less revenue than last year's "Jurassic World." Stifel lowered its Q2 EPS estimate for AMC to 23c from 46c and cut its Q2 EPS estimate for Cinemark to 52c from 64c. However, Stifel keeps Buy ratings on AMC and Cinemark.
