With the Wuhan coronavirus impacting investor sentiment, many of the China-levered auto and truck names have been selling off, Piper Sandler analyst Alexander Potter tells investors in a research note. Uncertainty over the ultimate severity of the outbreak will persist, but if history is any guide, then China will probably contain the virus within the next few months, and the "panicked selling will prove short-lived," contends Potter. The analyst, however, adds that macro headwinds and structural issues in the auto industry "won't disappear after the virus is contained." As such, he recommends only a handful of China-levered names - Aptiv (APTV), Niu Technologies (NIU) and Geely Automobile (GELYF).
