Although semiconductor stocks have outperformed in 2019, further upside exists in 2020 as the industry growth rates inflect positively and drive the positive earnings revision cycle, JPMorgan analyst Harlan Sur tells investors in a research note. The analyst's overall top pick in semis is Broadcom (AVGO) on the company's "underappreciated diversification," "strong" free cash flow and dividend growth. He also highlights Overweight-rated Nvidia (NVDA), Intel (INTC) and Micron Technology (MU) on their "strong datacenter exposure," Qorvo (QRVO) and Marvell (MRVL) as key 5G plays, as well as Texas Instruments (TXN) and Microchip (MCHP) on improving industrial/cyclical trends. In small caps, Sur's top pick is Inphi (IPHI) and in semiconductor equipment his pick is KLA-Tencor (KLAC).
