JD, BABA

Bernstein estimates that Alibaba (BABA) is still obtaining 71% of incremental GMV in the Chinese e-commerce market, versus 21%-22% for JD.com (JD). Noting that many investors believe that JD.com's wholly owned last mile infrastructure is giving it a competitive advantage, Bernstein disputes that notion. The firm thinks that the winners of the Chinese e-commerce battle will be determined by quality and trust. It believes that JD will have difficulty competing with Alibaba over the longer term ,given what it sees as the latter company's superior prices and selection. Bernstein keeps a $100 price target and Outperform rating on Alibaba.
