As previously reported, Jefferies analyst Christopher LaFemina upgraded BHP Billiton to Buy from Hold as he believes fundamentals have "clearly improved," citing supply that has declined in most cases and demand that has stabilized. Mining capital expenditures have fallen by 70% from the 2012 peak and BHP's exposure to iron ore lump and met coal is favorable, added LaFemina.

Anglo American (NGLOY) doesn't view BHP's (BHP) proposed $39B takeover bid as attractive, Reuters' Clara Denina, Amy-Jo Crowley and Anousha Sakoui report, citing two sources. According to one source, the offer does not address the complexities of demerging the Anglo American Platinum and Kumba Iron Ore businesses in South Africa.
