Margin expectations for the cable companies are too low across the board, MoffettNathanson analyst Craig Moffett tells investors in a research note. The analyst raised his price targets for all of the cable stocks and elevated Charter Communications (CHTR), which he thinks has the most upside due to having the lowest margins in the group today, to his top pick in the sector. Moffett boosted Buy-rated Charter's target to $584 from $488, Neutral-rated Comcast's target to $49 from $43, Buy-rated Altice USA's (ATUS) target to $38 from $28, and Neutral-rated Cable One's (CABO) target to $1,009 from $900. The idea that cable margins could climb as high as 50% shouldn't be viewed skeptically, says Moffett. He believes that as video fades as a percentage of revenue, the cable business "gets closer and closer to being a pure telecommunications business."
