Stephens analyst Mark Connelly initiated Compass Minerals with an Outperform rating and a price target of $74. Connelly notes that while three consecutive disappointing snow seasons may be unusual, he does not believe that global warming is weighing on demand for road salt. Instead, the analyst contends that the company's is at "trough earnings". Connelly adds that the demand for Compass Minerals' specialty fertilizer products continues to grow and also points to the company's cost reduction and M&A expectations driving higher growth rates.
