Leerink analyst Ana Gupte sees the Express Scripts (ESRX) announcement on having been dropped from the Anthem (ANTM) PBM contract race despite increased savings of $1B annually from 2017-2019 as "not entirely surprising," and views CVS Health (CVS) and Prime Therapeutics having the greatest probability of winning, with Optum remaining a dark horse in the race. The analyst expects Anthem to not just consider price and margin expansion in its choice of PBM supplier, but also the strategic relationship.
