Odeon Capital analyst Richard Bove said testimony yesterday from Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Housing Secretary Ben Carson, and FHFA Director Mark Calabria in front of the House of Representatives' Financial Services Committee "had to be horrifying to owners" of shares of GSEs Fannie Mae (FNMA) and Freddie Mac (FMCC). The "devastating remarks" showed "strong antipathy toward shareholders in these companies" and Mnuchin repeatedly indicated that there was money owed to the U.S., according to Bove, who added that "none of the three gentlemen" discussed any plans or timetables for freeing the two companies from their conservatorship. Bove keeps Sell ratings on the shares of both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
