Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson points out that April NPD video game software sales were down 21% year-over-year. The analyst attributes the decline to a tough comp given the launch of Mortal Kombat X a year ago. Olson believes the numbers suggest slight upside for GameStop's (GME) April quarter as April is the last month of the company's Q1, and NPD sales were down only 6% for the quarter versus his estimate of down 13% for new software sales. He views the April NPD results as less relevant for Activision Blizzard (ATVI) and Electronic Arts (EA). Olson keeps Overweight ratings on GameStop, Activision, EA and Take-Two (TTWO).
