Macquarie said GNC Holdings (GNC) and Vitamin Shoppe (VSI) sold off intraday on a rumor they would be named in a Department of Justice civil and criminal lawsuit. Analyst Bob Summers said shares partially recovered once they were not named as defendants by the FDA and DOJ in a crackdown on 117 individuals and companies illegally marketing dietary supplements. Summers expects GNC Holdings and Vitamin Shoppe shares to be volatile given the current environment but expects both stocks to fully recover from yesterday's losses.
