Cowen said its survey of over 1,000 U.S. consumers regarding their food behaviors indicated that that buyers are in an early stage of demand for more transparent grocery and restaurant offerings. Cowen said that the survey highlighted competitive headwinds being faced by GrubHub (GRUB) in food delivery and that it was concerned about how Whole Foods' (WFM) rollout of a second concept could potentially impact its core brand. The firm also noted that it views the survey results as positive for Chipotle (CMG), Panera Bread (PNRA), Sprouts Farmers Markets (SFM) and Wal-Mart (WMT).

After Walmart (WMT) and Vizio (VZIO) pulled and refiled their notification under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act Wednesday, Dealreporter told its readers that the move "may have investors wondering if this could become another Amazon (AMZN) and iRobot (IRBT) situation," contacts tell The Fly. While the M&A-focused publication said "there are traces of that same dynamic here," it added that "this pull-and-refile suggests this deal is on stronger footing than AMZN-IRBT," according to contacts. The news service sees "a genuine chance that this deal could get a prolonged look from regulators due to some of the similar dynamics at play compared to IRBT and AMZN," it reportedly said.

Bernstein raised the firm's price target on Chipotle to $3,200 from $2,800 and keeps an Outperform rating on the shares. Citing the recent launch of Chicken Al Pastor and momentum in in-store execution, the firm believes that the fundamental setup for 2024 is stronger and updated its same-store sales growth estimate to about 7% for 2024. The firm expects that Chipotle will reach $4M in average unit volume, or AUV, in five to six years, which it notes is ahead of consensus.
