JPMorgan analyst Dominic O'Kane said the longer-term outlook for South African domiciled gold miners is unattractive, due to their exposure to ultra-deep underground mines that will continue to incur higher cost inflation, lower productivity and higher cost of capital than mechanized mines located elsewhere. He downgraded Harmony Gold to Underweight from Overweight, citing valuation and his concern that depletion may need to be addressed by M&A.
