Deutsche Bank analyst Debbie Jones says International Paper (IP) is increasing containerboard prices by $50 per ton effective October 1st, citing trade contacts. The analyst notes that she is not aware of similar moves from other producers, but suspects additional announcements may come. Nonetheless, Jones questions whether or not the full amount will be achieved and if an increase is sustainable. A successful increase would be beneficial not only for International Paper, but also for WestRock (WRK), Packaging Corp (PKG) and KapStone (KS), the analyst says, noting that Greif (GEF) also has modest exposure to containerboard. In afternoon trading, International Paper's stock has gained over 4% to $48.59 per share.
