Wedbush analyst Morry Brown believes lululemon (LULU) had a strong Christmas weekend with good traffic and conversion despite the absence of markdowns and promotions. Other mall-based yoga brands, in contrast, resorted to promotions to drive traffic, the analyst tells investors in a research note. In the specialty retail space, Express (EXPR) generated strong traffic with similar promotions to last year, while stepped up promotions drove traffic at Gap's (GPS) Old Navy and Banana brands, Brown writes. Among teen retailers, the analyst's store checks indicated Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) had some of the strongest traffic and sell through in the category by the end of the holiday weekend. Brown has Outperform ratings on lululemon, Express, Kate Spade (KATE) and Francesca's (FRAN).
