JPMorgan indicated that Southwest (LUV) raised about one-half of its fare structure by $5 one-way overnight, marking the carriers first broad-based fare hike since October. The firm said its records show that competitors have consistently followed Southwest’s lead in terms of rate hikes in the past and that it expects widespread industry matching overnight. Other publicly traded companies in the space include JetBlue (JBLU), which already took a similar pricing action earlier in the week, American Airlines (AAL), Delta Air Lines (DAL) and United Continental (UAL).
