Today, the US District Court in Washington, DC rescinded the Financial Stability Oversight Council's, or FSOC, designation of Metlife as systemically important, the so-called "SIFI" designation. Evercore ISI analyst Terry Haines said government is expected to appeal the District Court's ruling and fight for both the SIFI rules and the FSOC regime more generally. The analyst said the appeals could go on for a year or more, and until then, the current FSCO regime is not likely to change or be suspended.
