Citi analyst Suneet Kamath remains 6% below the consensus estimates for MetLife ahead of the company's outlook call on December 14. Assuming an adjusted 2018 earnings per share baseline of $5.05 and certain 2019 discrete items, the analyst arrives at a pre-growth 2019 earnings per share level of $5.19. As such, the current 2019 consensus of $5.58 implies 7%-8% core earnings growth, which "seems too high" for MetLife's business mix, Kamath tells investors in a research note. The analyst keeps a Sell rating on the shares.
