Piper Jaffray analyst Brett Wong said press reports indicating that BASF (BASFY) and Bayer (BAYRY) are interested in possibly buying Monsanto (MON) seems to still be speculation and there do not seem to be any real offers on the table as of yet. Using a similar EBTIDA multiple as the one Syngenta (SYT) received from ChemChina would result in a mid-$50B offer for Monsanto, said Wong, but he added that without an official bid over the next week he believes Monsanto shares may be under pressure. The firm keeps an Overweight rating and $95 price target on Monsanto, which is up about 9% to $98.71 in late morning trading.
