As previously reported, JMP Securities analyst Peter Martin downgraded Meritage Homes to Market Perform from Outperform citing his expectations for a heightened competitive environment in 2019-2020 along with the stock's recent rally. He is concerned Meritage may have to use additional incentives to drive volumes, which is at a minimum a margin headwind and possibly more detrimental if rates move up, Martin tells investors.
