Leerink analyst Puneet Souda notes that Myriad Genetics announced that it is acquiring Counsyl for $375M. The acquisition positions Myriad into the high growth but competitive genetic carrier screening and non-invasive prenatal testing market, he adds. The analyst is not surprised by the continued consolidation in the reproductive genetic testing space and expects more to follow despite increasing competition as companies hope to gain access to increasingly more testing volumes, drive scale and reduce their COGS. Souda reiterates a Market Perform rating on Myriad's shares.
