Baird analyst David Leiker attributed yesterday's weakness in shares of Navistar (NAV) to news that TRATON, Volkswagen's (VLKAY) truck and bus unit, had suspended its IPO plans. Although he notes there has been speculation over time that TRATON would eventually make an outright offer for Navistar, Leiker thinks it was hard to argue prior to the slide that any takeout premium was embedded in Navistar's valuation and so the selloff "makes little sense." The analyst, who thinks Navistar is worth owning in light of strong market share gains, margin expansion, and cash flow improvement, keeps an Outperform rating and $53 price target on the stock.
