In a note issued after Intel's (INTC) deal to acquire Mobileye (MBLY) had been reported by the media, SunTrust analyst William Stein said he views the deal, which has now been confirmed by the companies, as a negative for NVIDIA (NVDA), which he sees as Mobileye's nearest long-term competitor in the ADAS market. He also views the deal as negative for STMicroelectronics (STM), which currently fabricates Mobileye's chips, as he sees that work transitioning to Intel over time.

Pre-earnings options volume in Intel is normal with calls leading puts 2:1. Implied volatility suggests the market is anticipating a move near 5.6%, or $1.96, after results are released. Median move over the past eight quarters is 7.8%.

The company said, "We will now drive the Company based on a revised plan for FY24 revenues in the range of $14 billion to $15 billion. Within this plan, we expect a gross margin in the low 40's. We plan to maintain our Net Capex1 plan for FY24 at about $2.5 billion focusing on our strategic manufacturing initiatives."

Reports Q1 revenue $3.47B, consensus $3.61B. Jean-Marc Chery, ST President & CEO, commented: "Q1 net revenues and gross margin both came in below the midpoint of our business outlook range, driven by lower revenues in Automotive and Industrial, partially offset by higher revenues in Personal Electronics."
