After Tandem Diabetes Care (TNDM) stated earlier today that UnitedHealthcare (UNH) is no longer allowing patients a choice for durable insulin pumps, Leerink analyst Danielle Antalffy said she believes the impact of this decision is "de minimis" for both Insulet (PODD) and DexCom (DXCM) and that the selloffs in their shares was overdone. Top distributors say UnitedHealth reimbursement for Insulet is already difficult to get, while the type of DexCom devices impacted make up a very small percentage of its total installed base, Antalffy tells investors. The big question, however, is whether other payors follow suit, the analyst said. Additionally, Antalffy said the news is an incremental positive for Medtronic (MDT), which was named UnitedHealthcare's preferred, in-network provider of insulin pumps, and an incremental negative for Johnson & Johnson (JNJ).
