Following a press report speculating that Xilinx (XLNX) has received a $15B takeover offer, Cowen analyst Timothy Arcuri noted that Qualcomm (QCOM) is often cited as a prospective buyer of Xilinx. While such a deal would clearly accelerate Qualcomm's Data Center initiatives, it "wouldn't really move the needle" for Qualcomm and would be a "huge" outlay for a deal that isn't transformational, Arcuri contends. Buying Xilinx would not very tax efficient, added the analyst, who makes the case that Qualcomm would be better off buying NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) in a deal that would allow the company to use its offshore cash.
