Stephens analyst Will Slabaugh reviewed the Q2 earnings season for the restaurant space, telling investors in a research note that he continues to believe that the underlying consumer is "healthy" and capable of spending more money year-over-year, though he expects traffic to be increasingly split between those both improving quality and value and those systems that have been slower to adapt to a more discerning customer. Slabaugh says he believes that expectations remain high among the restaurant space, and remains focused on his top picks in the space, contending that his favorites in quick service remain Restaurant Brands (QSR) and Wendy's (WEN), and that he is "sticking with" with the quality names in casual, including Darden (DRI), Texas Roadhouse (TXRH) and BJ's Restaurants (BJRI).
