Morgan Stanley analysts led by Stephen Byrd downgraded SCANA Corp to Underweight on risk of further delays in the nuclear construction schedule. Byrd is concerned about Westinghouse owner Toshiba's, financial strength, the vendor chosen by SCANA to construct its new nuclear plant. The firm's analyst believes if Toshiba's financial condition where to worsen, it could make it difficult for Westinghouse to honor the terms of the EPC contract. Further, Byrd said Southeast energy efficiency penetration is low, which could change over time towards trends favoring greater efficiency adoption, impacting long-term load growth.
