Baird analyst Daniel Katzenberg noted SM Energy divested its non-operated Eagle Ford acreage and showed it continues to advance a strategic effort to focus on the company's Midland Permian assets. The analyst said its lagging valuation to peers as well as its underperformance suggest holding the shares. Katzenberg sees rising oil prices as a tailwind for the company and reiterated his Outperform rating and $49 price target on SM energy shares.
