Cleveland Research analyst Kevin Rottinghaus said he is taking a more cautious view on Seagate for 2017 due to new research that indicates production/quality issues causing a miss to build/shipment targets in 10TB helium and 2.5" SMR drives. The analyst cotinues to see near-term 10TB issues limited margin upside in 1H 2017 and remains cautious on NAND gaining across HDD end markets. Rottinghaus expects Q4 to be slightly below consensus but sees more risk to current 1H 2018 estimates on softer end outlook, increased 2.5" client competition, and continued challenges in ramping/competing in highest capacity near-line offerings. The analyst has a Neutral rating on Seagate shares.
