Cowen said the Investment Tax Credit extension and the resolution of net metering in California have been positives for the solar industry and positioned players in the space for long-term growth. The result should allow residential solar players including SolarCity (SCTY), Enphase (ENPH), and Solar 3D (SLTD) to profit going forward while it removes a major risk to solar developers including SunEdison (SUNE), SunPower (SPWR), and First Solar (FSLR), the firm said.

Roth MKM lowered the firm's price target on Maxeon Solar (MAXN) to $3 from $6 and keeps a Neutral rating on the shares. The firm cites the company's announcement stating it had initiated a TOPCon patent infringement lawsuit against Canadian Solar (CSIQ), noting that this could cause a disruption in the industry as many may not be fully aware of the strength of its TOPCon IP portfolio. Maxeon TOPCon patents predate any other TOPCon technology, the analyst tells investors in a research note.
