BMO Capital analyst James Fotheringham lowered his price target on Synchrony to $37 and also lowered his FY20 and FY21 earnings by 12c and 66c to $4.18 and $4.51 respectively to reflect the company's investments in new products, payout of preferred dividends, and "higher CECL-inspired provisions." The analyst adds that the company's FY20 guidance was disappointing, but he sees Friday's near-10% decline as an opportunity for longer-term value investors, keeping his Outperform rating.

The company's lower-than-previously modeled RSA payments more than offset higher expected credit and operating costs, the analyst tells investors in a research note.
