For shorter-term oriented investors, the analyst recommends Travelers over peer Chubb (CB) due to having more conviction over its recent string of higher than expected non-catastrophe weather-related losses subsiding, a greater gearing to workers' comp. leading to a steady stream of reserve releases given an extremely healthy unemployment backdrop, and conviction that near-term auto margins will continue to improve given industry pricing dynamics. In the longer term, he struggles to make the case that Travelers' wheels business can produce better and less volatile results.
