After hosting a factory tour and test drive for clients at Tesla's (TSLA) Fremont facility, Canaccord Genuity analyst Jed Dorsheimer maintains a Buy rating on Tesla shares with a $450 price target. The stock in morning trading is up 1%, or $2.56, to $282.42. The analyst came away with renewed confidence in his thesis that the company maintains an advantage in the race to disrupt the internal combustion engine auto. The new $39,000 Model 3 is a "quantum leap forward in performance" and will capture the "lion-share" of current electric vehicle offerings, Dorsheimer tells investors in a research note. With the performance of a Porsche (POAHY) 911 and the price of an Audi A4 or BMW (BMWYY) 3 series, the Model 3 is the "best value proposition currently on the market today," contends Dorsheimer. And it is clear to the analyst that Tesla has built the facility for scale well beyond current volumes. Further, he was pleased to confirm that the most critical component in the electric vehicle remains the inverter, which he noes has transitioned to silicon carbide and is required with each motor. He sees this as a positive for Buy-thesis on Cree (CREE).

Elon Musk says: "Regarding FSD Version 12, which is the pure AI-based self-driving, if you haven't experienced this, I strongly urge you to try it out, it's profound. And the rate of improvement is rapid. And we've now turned that on for all cars with the cameras and inference computer everything from Hardware 3 on in North America. So it's been pushed out to, I think, around 1.8 million vehicles, and we're seeing about half of people use it so far and that percentage is increasing with each passing week."

Wells Fargo lowered the firm's price target on On Semiconductor (ON) to $95 from $110 and keeps an Overweight rating on the shares ahead of quarterly results. The firm anticipates On to deliver a Q2 guide slightly below expectations as it adjusts to Tesla-specific (TSLA) production softness specific to image sensor and SiC sales.
