Summit Research noted that TSMC (TSM) lowered its capex view by $1B to $10.5B-$11.0B from prior guidance of $11.5B-$12.0B in conjunction with its Q1 report. However, the firm notes the company spent only $1.5B in the first quarter of the year, meaning it plans to spend of $3B-$3.17B per quarter in the remainder of the year. Summit added that it believes the semiconductor capital equipment sector has "great times to look forward to." Makers of semiconductor equipment include Applied Materials (AMAT), KLA-Tencor (KLAC) and Lam Research Corporation (LRCX).
