Stephens analyst Farha Aslam said the WTO authorizing Canada and Mexico to impose retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. over Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling is a modest negative for U.S. meat producers, since the ruling puts U.S. pork and beef exports at risk. The impact will depend on whether beef and pork are included in the retaliatory tariffs and how long the trade restrictions last, Aslam told investors. The analyst also noted that the House has already repealed the rule and that the Senate is due vote on the matter soon. Publicly traded companies in the space include Hormel Foods (HRL), Pilgrim's Pride (PPC), Sanderson Farms (SAFM) and Tyson Foods (TSN).
