JPMorgan analyst Jackson Ader notes that according to a media report Monotype Imaging was again exploring the idea of a sale after receiving some inbound interest from private equity. Pointing out that he has often struggled to come up with strategic buyers for Monotype's entire business because while the font IP may be attractive to one company, the embedded printer and other OEM business may not be a strategic fit, the analyst believes that if the company were to remain whole as a target, it would likely have to be a private equity buyer. Nonetheless, Ader could see strategic buyers being interested in the font and user-generated content piece, leaving the OEM segment to be sold to private equity. The analyst has a Neutral rating on the shares.
