Jefferies believes that a merger between CBS (CBS) and Viacom (VIAB) probably won't occur in the near-term, as such a deal would "alter CBS' growth profile," according to Jefferies. The firm says that the synergies between the companies would be "largely cost related," while Viacom could actually weaken CBS' negotiating leverage, unless some of Viacom's networks were shut down. The firm keeps a Buy rating on Viacom.
