JPMorgan analyst Sterling Auty noted that the final transition of IANA over to ICANN is now complete, which he said clears the way for a Root Zone Maintainer contract and maybe an extension of .com registry agreement for VeriSign. Auty expects VeriSign shares to rise on the news, but also notes that a renewal still requires Department of Commerce approval and that the fourth quarter still has the potential for the first ever decline in the zone file as several million Chinese names will be coming up for renewal for the first time. He keeps an Underweight rating on VeriSign shares.
